With the strategic recommendation of the Hydrogen Technology Association, Hungary published its own national hydrogen strategy in the summer of 2021, the aim of which is to encourage the development of the hydrogen economy and ensure Hungary’s active role in the introduction of European hydrogen technology.

By outlining an ambitious but realistic vision, Hungary’s National Hydrogen Strategy will pave the way for the development of a hydrogen economy, thus contributing to the achievement of decarbonisation goals and creating the opportunity for Hungary to become an active player in the European hydrogen space. In the long run, the Strategy focuses on “green” hydrogen, but in addition to hydrogen produced from renewable sources, mainly solar energy, Hungary does not ignore the possibilities of hydrogen production based on nuclear-based and carbon-free electricity from the grid. In addition, low-carbon hydrogen will be needed in the short and medium term to rapidly reduce emissions and create a viable hydrogen market.
